High Tower Software Announces Cinxi Express
Award-winning software developer bolsters product line with entry-level security information event management appliance
San Francisco, RSA Conference 2008 - Security solutions developer High Tower Software today announced the release of a security appliance designed to help IT personnel in smaller organizations mitigate network security risks and better manage regulatory compliance. Called Cinxi Express, the new product is a Security Information Event Manager (SIEM) that collects log data from network devices, applications and users, analyzes the information to assess potential security and compliance threats, and alerts personnel when risks are detected.
Like High Tower’s enterprise-class Cinxi SIEM solutions, Cinxi Express delivers a full suite of log management, threat response, compliance monitoring, and data forensics capabilities organizations need to ensure that networks are secure and operating within corporate and regulatory guidelines.
“Smaller organizations face the same security and compliance hurdles that larger ones do,” said High Tower vice president of product management, A. Sage Osterfeld. “The biggest difference is that smaller operations don’t always have the personnel to dedicate to managing and maintaining these areas fulltime, so it’s often the same person handling these tasks simultaneously. Cinxi Express offers a single solution for both security and compliance.”
For security-related tasks, Cinxi Express delivers cross-device log monitoring and correlation, providing real time situational awareness of all security-related events on the network. Those events deemed sufficiently significant can be mitigated through an integrated case management and workflow system.
For compliance-oriented tasks, Cinxi Express’ secure raw log management and pre-packaged reports for SOX, PCI, HIPAA, GLBA, ISO 27001, FIPS, FISMA, FERPA and many more, greatly simplifies maintaining compliance standards and audit requirements. Cinxi Express users may also create custom reports for other compliance standards or internal business requirements.
Other major features of Cinxi Express include a high-performance hardware and software architecture, an integrated intuitive graphical control panel, and a setup and installation process that allows the product to go from the box to full operation in under an hour.
“Even though Cinxi Express is designed for smaller organizations, the feature set is by no means small. Cinxi Express is built on the same award-winning technology platform as our larger enterprise systems, and delivers the same ease-of-installation,” Osterfeld said. “Cinxi Express users receive the same user experience as larger Cinxi installations, and can easily migrate upward as their organizations grow.”
Cinxi Express carries a list price of $17,995 and is available directly from High Tower as well as through High Tower reseller and distribution channels.
Cinxi Express is being exhibited at the RSA Conference 2008 in San Francisco April 7-11 in the High Tower booth, #851. More information is also available by contacting High Tower Software at 877-HI TOWER (877-448-6937), or on the web at www.high-tower.com.

High Tower Software and Encryptanet Announce Technology Agreement
High Tower Software and Encryptanet Announce Technology Agreement
High Tower to incorporate Encryptanet’s authorization and access management technologies into Cinxi network security and compliance monitoring products
Aliso Viejo, Calif. - Security Software specialist High Tower Software today announced that it has entered a technology licensing agreement with Encrpytanet, Inc. of Anaheim, Calif. Under the agreement High Tower will incorporate Encryptanet’s authentication and access management technologies into High Tower’s line of network security and compliance monitoring systems.
“Monitoring and controlling user access to software and systems on a network is a major problem for IT and security personnel,” said High Tower vice president of product management, Sage Osterfeld. “Incorporating Encryptanet’s technologies into our products will give these folks a fast, easy and highly secure means to set and monitor access management policies from a centralized security management system.”
High Tower produces a line of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems dubbed “Cinxi” which automate the process of monitoring live data from network security devices, computers, and software applications. The systems centralize date collection, analyze, correlate, and store the information, providing organizations with better incident response and compliance with regulatory mandates.
Encryptanet is the developer of a software technology that controls and manages access to computers, software systems, digital content, servers, and other network devices via digital certificates. The technology is very simple to deploy and can’t be bypassed or “cracked” the way other access control and authentication systems such as passwords can. Encrypatnet’s software is licensed by a broad variety of businesses including payment processors, content publishers, software developers, and others.
“This is a very exciting technology partnership,” said Encryptanet founder and chief technology officer Clay Cover. “Incorporating the Encryptanet authentication and access technologies into Cinxi SIEM solutions will greatly enhance those system’s security monitoring and management capabilities. Network managers will have a powerful new tool for controlling and monitoring who has access to network systems and resources whether users are just down the hall or halfway around the world.”
The Encryptanet access management and authentication technologies are slated to appear in Cinxi products late in the second quarter of 2008.

High Tower Announces Cinxi
Award-winning software developer reveals next generation in high performance Security Information and Event Management Appliances.

Aliso Viejo, Calif. – Security solutions developer High Tower Software today announced a new generation of high performance security appliances designed to help organizations collect disparate network log data, assess it for potential security and compliance regulations impact, and store it securely for audit purposes. Dubbed Cinxi (pronounced “seen-zee”), from the Latin “to surround and protect”, the product line combines high performance hardware and a new modular software architecture to deliver a solution at the cutting edge of the security information and event management (SIEM) market.
Based on High Tower’s previous generation of award-winning security appliances, the SEM 3200 series, the Cinxi series offers a full range of robust threat response, compliance monitoring, and data forensics capabilities organizations need to manage a broad variety of business risks.
Major features of the Cinxi product line-up include:
- Multiple hardware platforms designed for organizations from small companies to global enterprises.
- 64 bit software system running on multi-core CPU architectures delivering up to 120,000 events per second (EPS) throughput.
- Fast setup and configuration. Less than one hour from installation to full operation.
- Service-oriented software architecture allows each module – device integrations, log collection, event correlation, database, case management, reporting, etc. – to run on a single system or in a distributed computing environment.
- Hardware-based encryption of all data at rest and up to 40 TB of storage.
- Reporting packs for major compliance standards such as PCI, FISMA, SOX and GLBA.
- Built-in support for over 1,000 network devices, hardware systems and applications.
- Automatic updating of new services, device integrations and reporting packages without taking the system offline.
A Major Evolution in SIEM
At the heart of the Cinxi line is a potent combination of high performance hardware and a modern service-oriented software architecture (SOA) written to take advantage of it. SOA-based systems are the backbone of the world’s leading software and technology firms because they offer greater speed, flexibility and reliability than older monolithic software platforms.
As an SOA platform, each of a Cinxi appliance’s functions — network device support, log collection, event correlation, reporting engine, case management, etc. – runs as an independent “service” utilizing just a portion of the system’s multi-core CPUs.
“Each Cinxi appliance is effectively four to eight individual systems running on a single hardware platform,” said High Tower’s Vice President of Engineering, Dr. Greg Bolcer. “This makes Cinxi considerably faster than a traditional all-in-one SIEM systems. It also makes it possible to quickly scale upward by distributing functionality across multiple appliances even if they’re scattered around the world.”
Additionally, with the service-oriented architecture, Cinxi users can update existing services and add new ones without interrupting the system’s operation.
“Essentially, a Cinxi appliance can grow right along with the user’s requirements,” Bolcer said. “If new security threats arise, compliance mandates change, or new functionality is required, Cinxi can evolve to account for those changes without affecting operations. It’s a major advance in the SIEM marketplace.”
Multiple Platforms and Enhancement Options
Three Cinxi models are available in three different appliance configurations designed to meet specific performance needs.
- Cinxi Ranger: a 1u appliance designed for smaller enterprises and regional offices of larger organizations. The system has 8GB RAM, two 1TB hard discs, hardware-based data encryption, and redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. Dual and Quad core CPU configurations are available with performance of up to 34,656 events per second (EPS).
- Cinxi Midway: a 2u appliance designed for mid-sized enterprises and national offices of larger organizations. The system has a quad-core CPU, 32GB RAM, six 1TB hard discs (RAID 5), hardware-based data encryption, and redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. Performance is up to 69,312 EPS.
- Cinxi Enterprise: a 5u appliance designed for global enterprises. The system has dual quad-core CPUs, 48GB RAM, eight 1TB hard discs (RAID 5), hardware-based data encryption, and redundant, hot-swappable power supplies. Performance is up to 115,520 EPS.
For organizations with a need for large volumes of active storage, add-on storage cabinets are also available.
- Cinxi Vault: a “plug-and-play” 3u storage cabinet with 15 1TB of additional disc space. The Vault attaches to any Cinxi appliance and up to three Vaults can be daisy-chained together to provide up to 40TB of additional storage.
Ease of Installation and Use
Despite the slew of new features and performance enhancements, Cinxi maintains the same easy installation and setup that won its SEM 3200 predecessor industry accolades.
“Even though we’ve made more than 1,000 enhancements to Cinxi, the product is still the easiest and fastest to install and start using in the industry,” Bolcer said. “Total time from setup to full functionality is less than an hour – even in large and highly complex network environments.”
Pricing and availability
The full line of Cinxi appliances will be available in February 2008. List prices start at $41,995 . More information is available by contacting High Tower Software at 877-HI TOWER (877-448-6937), or on the web at www.high-tower.com.
